Abstract

Reliability of power distribution systems play a critical characteristic for the Microgrid (MG) and deserve extra attention. Photovoltaic (PV) and Energy Storage System (ESS) in a microgrid distribution system can be used to provide more efficient and reliable power to the consumers. Additionally, PV and ESS can be used in case of an outage or a power interruption from the utility grid. An outage of the power system from the utility grid does not mean fallouts automatically in a loss of power to the consumers. This paper presents a method for reliability assessment of microgrid distribution systems affected by the consumer's PV energy and ESS based on a grid connected in Saudi Arabia. Using the Monte Carlo Simulation (MCS) method to calculate the reliability indices from the system (e.g., SAIFI and SAIDI) and the consumer's perspective (e.g., VOLL, ENS, and CIC). The results of the reliability assessment provided for residential, commercial, and government consumers with PV energy and ESS.
