Abstract

The research on the reliability of balanced systems has become a hot topic recently. New structures, new balanced mechanisms, and new balanced models for the balanced systems have been developed to extend the study of balanced systems. In order to enrich the research of balanced systems, a new real practical engine balanced system based on the port system is proposed by considering the system structure and the balanced mechanism. This paper studies the reliability for the balanced engine system with the new structure consisting of m sectors in which each sector has n engines. Three models are developed by considering engine start-up rules as the balanced mechanism to re-balance the unbalanced system, then the formulas of reliability for the system, probability density functions and the means for system lifetimes under the two models are obtained by using Laplace transform. In addition, we discuss two special cases when the engine lifetime distribution follows exponential and gamma distributions respectively. Finally, numerical examples are given to illustrate the results obtained in the paper.
