Abstract

The temperature dependences of the low frequency acoustic parameters in block copolymers of polyarylate and polyethylene oxide of varied composition but with fixed M of the polyarylate block have been studied. The behaviour of the α-transitions allows the block copolymer to be separated by composition into three regions: “antiplasticization”, plasticization and microphase separation. The position of the β transitions in the whole region of compositions studied is unchanged but the change in their intensity is explained by change in the content of the molecular groups involved in relaxation. The dispersion of the speed of sound passes through a maximum at 11% by weight PEO which is connected with the closeness of this composition to a spinodal.
