Abstract
The relativistic motion of a single particle undergoing cyclotron resonance in a magnetic mirror trap is studied. The Krylov-Bogoliubov method of averaging is employed to derive equations indicating an upper bound on particle energy. Smallness parameters necessary for the validity of these equations are made explicit. Limitation on particle energy absorption is found for a much broader class of particles than previously known. The relationship of this to experiment is discussed.
