his book review critically examines Industry 4.0 to Industry 5.0: Explorations in the Transition from a Techno-economic to a Socio-technical Future as an intellectual map of the shift from a techno-economic logic (efficiency, productivity, automation) toward a socio-technical horizon that uses human-centricity, sustainability, and resilience as its primary compass. The review synthesizes key threads across chapters—covering conceptual distinctions between Industry 4.0 and 5.0, governance and power dynamics, AI developments (including generative AI), soft skills, circular-economy pathways, and systemic risk pressures (climate crisis, cyber threats, geopolitical volatility) that shape organizational and policy choices. While the book’s main strength lies in its breadth and interdisciplinary ambition, the review highlights areas that would benefit from sharpening: clearer definitional boundaries, more operational indicators to prevent “human-centered, sustainable, resilient” from remaining a slogan, and richer empirical mini-cases—especially beyond Europe/US contexts. Overall, the draft positions the book as a timely bridge between technological acceleration and socio-environmental accountability, and it advances a policy-centric research agenda centered on a core question: technology for whom, under which incentives, and with what social impacts.

The article is devoted to the history of the development of ICT and AI, their current and expected future achievements, and the problems (which have already arisen but will become even more acute in the future) associated with the development of these technologies and their widespread application in society. It shows the close connection between the development of AI and cognitive science, the penetration of ICT and AI into various spheres, particularly health care, and the very intimate areas related to the creation of digital copies of the deceased and posthumous contact with them. A significant part of the article is devoted to the analysis of the concept of ‘artificial intelligence’, including the definition of generative AI. The authors analyse recent achievements in the field of Artificial Intelligence. There are given descriptions of the basic models, in particular the Large Linguistic Models (LLM), and forecasts of the development of AI and the dangers that await us in the coming decades. The authors identify the forces behind the aspiration to create AI, which is increasingly approaching the capabilities of the so-called general/universal AI, and also suggest desirable measures to limit and channel the development of artificial intelligence. It is emphasized that the threats and dangers of the development of ICT and AI are particularly aggravated by the monopolization of their development by the state, intelligence services, major corporations and those often referred to as globalists. The article provides forecasts of the development of computers, ICT and AI in the coming decades, and also shows the changes in society that will be associated with them. The study consists of two articles. The first, published in the previous is-sue of the journal, has provided a brief historical overview and characterized the current situation in the field of ICT and AI. It has also analyzed the concepts of artificial intelligence, including generative AI, changes in the understanding of AI related to the emergence of the so-called large language models and related new types of AI programs (ChatGPT and similar models). The article has discussed the serious problems and dangers associated with the rapid and uncontrolled development of artificial intelligence. This second article describes and comments on the current assessments of breakthroughs in the field of AI, analyzes various predictions, and provides the authors' own assessments and predictions of future developments. Particular attention is paid to the problems and dangers associated with the rapid and uncontrolled development of AI, with the fact that advances in this field become a powerful means of control over the population, imposing ideologies, priorities and lifestyles, influencing the results of elections, and a tool to undermine security and geopolitical struggles.

A Study on Generative AI in the China Media Setting Contemplated with the Nation's Economic Modernisation

This research looks at the potential effects of generative artificial intelligence AI on the country's media landscape. Given their pervasiveness, it aims to reveal how AI-powered technologies in media content creation, distribution, and personalisation contribute to the overall process of national progress. Using well-designed questionnaires, the study quantitatively collects data from media professionals, techies, and communication scholars in large cities throughout China. Using statistical tools such as structural equation modelling and regression analysis, one investigated the interplay between the rate of modernisation, the effects of national development, and AI-driven media innovation. Media indices of generative AI demonstrate a clear positive correlation with the effect of modernism and national development programs. As China strives to digitally change its communication infrastructure and increase its cultural influence, technological prowess, and media production, generative AI is playing an increasingly crucial role. This study shows that AI in media may lead to more dynamic stories, practical audience participation, and worldwide outreach, all thanks to modernist techniques. There is no part of this that does not contribute to the advancement of national development goals. The results provide policymakers, media outlets, and AI developers with valuable information for formulating strategies to integrate AI with sustainable development objectives. Via an experimental interaction between generative AI and national development perceived via a modernist lens, this study provides a framework for future research on new media technologies and national change. The discussion of the societal potential presented by AI may now begin.

Interdisciplinary Dialogues: The Major Risks of Generative AI

In an exciting series of Interdisciplinary Dialogues on the societal impacts of AI, we invite a guest speaker and panellists from the fields of science and engineering, health and humanities and social sciences to discuss the advances, challenges and opportunities raised by AI. The first dialogue in this series began with Yoshua Bengio, who, concerned about developments in generative AI and the major risks they pose for society, initiated the organization of a conference on the subject. The event took place on August 14, 2023 in Montreal, and was aimed at initiating collective, interdisciplinary reflection on the issues and risks posed by recent developments in AI. The conference took the form of a panel, moderated by Juliette Powell, to which seven specialists were invited who cover a variety of disciplines, including: computer science (Yoshua Bengio and Golnoosh Farnadi), law (Caroline Lequesne and Claire Boine), philosophy (Jocelyn Maclure), communication (Sonja Solomun) and political science (Hugo Loiseau). This document is the result of this first interdisciplinary dialogue on the societal impacts of AI. The speakers were invited to respond concisely, in the language of their choice, to questions raised during the event. “What all of us have to do is to make sure we are using AI in a way that is for the benefit of humanity, not to the detriment of humanity” (Tim Cook)As we stride deeper into the digital era of 21st century, where algorithms learn faster than we teach, and machines outperform humans in nearly all fields of life including diagnostics, academics, and even creativity, the essence of being human is undergoing redefinition.1 Artificial Intelligence (AI) has undeniably revolutionized virtually every aspect of our lives including healthcare, academia, finance and governance. However, as AI's reach extends, a paradox emerges: the more intelligent our machines become, the more significance our human-centered skills hold. In this era of exponential technological growth, soft skills; particularly empathy, emotional intelligence, adaptability, communication, and ethical reasoning have become essential.2 Soft skills more aptly described as “power skills," are typically defined as personal characteristics and emotional competencies that help individuals efficiently regulate their emotions, thoughts, and behaviors. In general terms, soft skills are the personality characteristics, attitudes, and social abilities that are intangible and more closely correlated with character characteristics and social skills than they are with technical proficiency.3 These include communication, creativity, emotional intelligence, and adaptability—skills that are becoming increasingly important in today's healthcare settings. Professionals that can successfully incorporate AI and cognitive technologies with human methods will be the most successful by 2030. AI will improve human capabilities rather than replace them. According to the World Economic Forum, by 2025, more than half of workers will require retraining, with an emphasis on soft skills to support technology improvements.4 AI excels at hard skills and automating mundane, time-consuming tasks but it falls short in areas like creativity, empathy, and human judgment. This is exactly where the very core behavioral skills come in, filling the gap and bringing human qualities that are essential for innovation and collaboration. Moreover, competencies like critical thinking facilitate the interpretation of results produced by AI and transform them into strategic decisions. Soft skills between professional ideals and organizational constraints: healthcare professionals' perspectives.

Healthcare professionals operate in complex and rapidly changing environments, where quality of care depends not only on clinical expertise but also on soft skills such as empathy, communication, teamwork, emotional regulation, and adaptive decision-making. Yet soft skills are often treated as professional ideals, and less is known about how healthcare professionals understand and enact them under routine organizational constraints. This qualitative study examined how professionals define, interpret, and experience soft skills in everyday work within a complex and rapidly changing healthcare context. By moving beyond normative accounts of soft skills, the study seeks to clarify how these competencies are experienced as context-dependent practices embedded within organizational realities. Based on 37 in-depth semi-structured online interviews conducted between 2023 and 2024 with healthcare professionals working in large public hospitals and health maintenance organizations, including physicians, nurses, and healthcare providers. Data were analyzed inductively using thematic analysis. Five interrelated themes were identified: (1) Soft Skills as a Shared Professional Ideal (2) Time and Workload Pressure (3) Emotional Strain and the Gradual Erosion of Soft Skills (4) Soft Skills as Developable Capacities Within Supportive Organizational Environments; and (5) Navigating Change and Digital Transformation in a VUCA Healthcare Environment. The findings reveal a persistent gap between the normative framing of soft skills and their conditional enactment in practice, shaped by workload intensity, emotional strain, and systemic pressures. Overall, soft skills emerged as essential yet fragile professional resources whose enactment is contingent on time, emotional capacity, and organizational support. The study contributes theoretically by conceptualizing soft skills not as stable individual attributes, but as situated professional practices mediated by organizational conditions and systemic change. The findings suggest that strengthening soft skills requires closer alignment between educational preparation and workplace realities through longitudinal development, structured practice opportunities, and organizational cultures that recognize and protect relational work as a core component of healthcare practice. The growing dependence of modern society on digital technologies leads to an increase in cyber threats, which makes the issue of cyber security particularly relevant. The problem of the research is to determine the effective mechanisms of protection of information systems in the conditions of globalization and growing geopolitical challenges. The purpose of the article is to analyze the development of international data privacy standards, the role of the latest technologies in cyberspace protection, and the formation of an effective global network strategy. Special attention is paid to the directions of international cooperation in the development of technological innovations and the training of qualified personnel. The article examines the legal, technological and educational aspects of data security policy, analyzes the experience and practices of different countries, which allows determining effective directions for improving the effectiveness of protection against cyber threats. Based on the conducted research, the main challenges and prospects for the development of the global defense system were determined, including the need to integrate efforts at the international level and integrate into the rapidly changing conditions of cyberspace. The results emphasize the importance of creating a unified global network protection system that ensures the protection of relevant information resources and the privacy of personal data in the digital world. Outlined recommendations for the effective integration of countermeasures into national and international strategies can serve as a factor in ensuring a secure digital future and building an appropriate infrastructure. (Re)politicization of climate change mitigating projects: environmental forms and motives of the Seine Nord Europe canal

Climate change adaptation and mitigation strategies are gaining visibility and support. Decision-makers are defending the extension of large infrastructures that are low greenhouse gas (GHG) emitters, as a way to act quickly and massively without calling into question existing economic models. This situation depoliticizes these projects, masking their other ecological consequences such as their impacts on biodiversity. This article examines how promoters of these projects depoliticized its socio-technical futures while other actors re-politicized them. Using the example of the Seine Nord Europe Canal project, we show a politicization of the territorial future and a depoliticization of the environmental future. This depoliticization is based on the techno-optimist discourse promoting large-scale infrastructures as the only possible solution to the global ecological and climate crisis. It uses a selective framing of the environment that makes some elements visible and others invisible. We conducted semi-structured interviews with biodiversity stakeholders in the territories that would be impacted by the canal. Based on the concepts of environmental forms and motives, we reconstructed the environmental ontologies ignored by the dominant discourse and assembled them into three alternative scenarios. We present the method of investigation and identification of these motives and discuss the likelihood of the constructed scenarios participating in a re-politicization based on the reactions of various actors.

This allows you to quickly react to new threats and attacks, ensuring a high level of security.The importance of implementing comprehensive protection systems that take into account the variety of cyber threats and ensure reliable and sustainable protection of information resources in the future will become more important every day. This approach will help ensure the security of networks, reduce the risk of successful cyber attacks and ensure the security and confidentiality of information in today’s digital world.In general, complex information protection systems are becoming an integral part of modern information security.
