Abstract

The regularities of changes in the main characteristics of coal tar pitch (softening point, ash content, volatile matter yield, content of α-, α1-, α2-, γ- and β-fractions) obtained by coal tar distillation, were studied changing three process parameters – tar heating rate, temperature and duration of isothermal exposure. The mathematical model obtained in the form of regression equations satisfactorily describes the dependence of the studied pitch characteristics on the coal tar distillation process parameters and can be used to predict the quality of the resulting coal tar pitch.
