Abstract

This work aims to produce a quite simple and accurate tool for the estimation of greenhouse monthly heating demands, having no need of extensive regional meteorological data. For this reason, a model was developed which requires, as inputs, the monthly sunshine hours, the mean and maximum (or minimum) monthly average air temperatures and the monthly average wind speed. The model is applied, suitably adapted for the two most common covering materials: glass and polyethylene. Monthly average meteorological data, for 36 different locations arranged over Greece, are inserted in the model. Results are presented for two different greenhouse air temperature levels: (i) in the form of tables for three typical climatologically different locations of Greece and (ii) in the form of maps, for the yearly heating needs, all over the country.
