Abstract

This paper seeks to highlight the importance of dialogue as a form of communication process and the effectiveness of the dialogue-based learning instruction in adult learning and higher education. In this endeavor, the author (1) defines and explains dialogue-based learning based on the perspectives of Anderson, Cissna, and Arnett (1986), Bohm (1996), and Lipari (2014); (2) explicates the term communication based on Buber's perspective (Arnett, 1986); (3) explains the characteristics of dialogue (Anderson, Cissna, & Arnett, 2003); (4) clarifies the characteristics of dialogic ethic (Arnett, 1986); and (5) emphasizes the meaning of dialogue-based learning instruction through review of relevant literatures on the topic.
