Abstract

This volume contains medium-length signed articles by Russian literary scholars on notable writers from Bosnia-Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia, and Slovenia, as well as longer articles on futurism, modernism (two articles), postmodernism, realism, and South Slavic national revivals. It covers the time period from the beginning of each national literature to the twentieth and early twenty-fi rst centuries. Authors working mainly in non-Slavic languages (one exception being the Croatian Latinist Marko Marulic) do not seem to be included. The volume is arranged alphabetically by author, and a useful personal-name index is included. Each entry includes the author’s dates and places of birth and death, as well as alternative forms of each name and brief bibliographical references. Finally, a glossary of relevant terms, abbreviations, and a short bibliography for further reading are included. The fi ve-page bibliography is limited to works in Russian and South Slavic languages.—SS
