Abstract

Gastric lesions were produced in unrestrained rats subjected to a 6 hr shock stress session followed by a 2 hr rest period. Electrical stimulation of the brain (posterior lateral hypothalamus) administered during the 2 hr post stress rest period significantly decreased ulcer development (i.e., percentage of animals showing lesions, number of lesions per animal, and severity of lesions) in the test group.
