Abstract

Introduction: Wrong tooth extraction (WTE) is considered to be a ‘never event’ - an eventuality which should never occur in healthcare. However, WTE is the most prevalent ‘wrong site surgery’ never event in the NHS. Surgical patients are marked before theatre, but marking individual teeth is difficult. This project aims to reduce the risk of WTE by introducing a patient-specific label detailing the planned treatment, which is easily visible to the operating team during the procedure.
