Abstract
Reducing Central Line Blood Stream Infections (CLABSI) outside of the Intensive care Unit (ICU) is a major focus for hospitals. Our hospital uses an electronic algorithm (Non-ICU Electronic Rate {NICER}) to apply National Healthcare Safety Network definitions. This information is instantly available to the Infection Preventionists (IP) to look for trends in any area of the hospital. In 2013, the IP identified an elevated CLABSI rate of 2.74 on the Medical Oncology floor.
