Abstract

482 1 Currently, oxygen converter shops at Ukrainian metallurgical enterprises must contend with unstable batch composition and quality and a shortage of metal scrap. Consequently, cast iron is being used in the con verter batch, which may have both positive and nega tive consequences. Nevertheless, the technological instructions at many plants remain unchanged, and modifications to the converter parameters are made by trial and error. In most cases, this reduces the effi ciency of steel production. It would be better to adopt an integrated approach based on mathematical simu lation of the converter process. This in turn, would permit reduction in resource and energy costs by opti mizing the batch, slag, and temperature conditions.
