Abstract

The Republic of Singapore consists of one main island of 570 km2 and 57 offshore islands, the largest of which is 17.9 km2. The coastline is 136 km long for the main island and more than 300 km if the offshore islands are included. ‘If the coastal areas are taken to mean a strip two miles wide along the foreshore (excluding all rivers), this strip occupies more than 50% of the main island and all the offshore islands’ (U.N. Department of International Economic and Social Affairs, 1982).KeywordsEast CoastMain IslandOffshore IslandPublic Open SpaceStrait TimeThese keywords were added by machine and not by the authors.
