Abstract

We consider the problem of steady-state vibrations generated by a defect in an elastic material that is at the stage of prefracture under conditions of a plane stress state. The process of radiation of acoustic emission (AE) by a defect extending to the free boundary of the elastic body is investigated. The problem is to reconstruct the defect radiation amplitudes based on AE signals at the free boundary of the body. The inverse reconstruction problem is studied and solved on the basis of the variational approach. The data of numerical calculation of radiation parameters are presented for aluminum.
