Abstract

Abstract Peripheral public sector housing estates are a neglected feature of post‐war urban policy. It is now recognised, however, that the estates exhibit many of the indices of social and economic deprivation that characterise the inner cities. Recent urban policy in Scotland recognises this and proposes a regeneration strategy for both the inner cities and peripheral housing estates. This new urban policy relies heavily on greater involvement by the private sector operating through partnerships with the public sector.
