Abstract

Silent mating type information regulation 2 homolog 1 ( SIRT1 ) is a member of sirtuins family of protein deacetylases, the homologue of yeast silent information regulator (Sir)-2. It involves the transcription of several genes, the regulation of energy metabolism and the process of cell senescence. SIRT1 not only promotes glucose production in hepatocyte and fat mobilization in adipocyte, but also regulates insulin secretion of pancreatic β-cell. In addition, SIRT1 can increase the ability of cell survival, as well as the repair of DNA damages, thus prolongs the longevity of organism. A number of transcription factors are implicated in the effects of SIRT1 ,such as PGC-1α,p53 ,FOXO. Key words: SIRT1; Glucose metabolism; Lipid metabolism; Insulin; Cell aging
