Abstract

We present a review on the recent advances in the generation of very high magnetic fields in the megagauss range up to 550 T and their application to solid state physics experiments. Particularly we focus on the electromagnetic flux compression and its computer simulation. Recent experimental results are shown on cyclotron resonance in semiconductors and magnetization saturation in the low-dimensional magnetic system CuGeO 3.
