Abstract

The fourth volume of<i>Recent Advances in Dermatology</i>attests anew to Arthur Rook's abilities as an author and as an editor. It is not possible to single out any of the 11 chapters as superior to the others. They are all clearly written and fully documented by data and by bibliographic references. The original publications are evaluated with care and objectivity. The book is uniquely valuable since no other source contains such concise presentations of so much up-to-date knowledge in so many fields important to the dermatologist. These fields include: "Opportunism and Skin Infections"; "The Sexually Transmitted Diseases"; "Arthropods and the Skin"; "Tropical Skin Diseases in Temperate Climates"; "Sweat Glands and Their Disorders"; "Leg Ulcers"; "Common Baldness and Alopecia Areata"; "Tumours of the Skin" ("ours" despite the fact that the authors of this section are all of the United States); "Topical Therapy"; "Ionizing Radiation in Benign Dermatoses"; and "Drug Reactions."
