Abstract

Diabetic retinopathy (DR) is a sight-threatening disease that can be prevented by early diagnosis and screening. It damages the retinal vasculature and can cause retinal abnormalities. The diagnosis of DR can be done accurately by detecting various retinal signs such as microaneurysms, hemorrhages, exudates, etc. In this paper, a review of various retinal abnormalities along with the comparison of imaging modalities has been done. Furthermore, the paper elaborates on the methodology of detecting the lesion among diabetic patients. This review is important to those who are new to the field of medical image analysis and want to contribute more to the field of DR.
