Abstract

The Key element contributes to the success of an active noise attenuation ANA scheme is its capability of identifying the noise dynamics in real-time, and the use of adaptive optimal control laws to generate the corresponding anti-phase acoustic signal (from a loudspeaker) for the ultimate noise cancellation. In the context of robustness, convergence and tracking capability of the parameter estimating process, where the ANA is very much dependent on, a new robust recursive least squares (RLS) algorithm of which an optimally varied forgetting factor is derived. To further enhance its realtime performance, the Motorola's DSP96002 floating-point arithmetic digital processor (DSP) chip has been used. Due to its design in software and hardware architecture, the accuracy of arithmetic computation and the speed of processing of the algorithm has been greatly improved and has been found that it is well-suited for the application of ANA system.
