The administrative and financial barriers preventing the start of school sports activities. Methodology: The researchers used the descriptive–analytical method. The study sample included 62 supervisors (educational and subject specialists) working in the Nineveh Directorate of Education. The researchers developed a questionnaire that covered three main areas: the role of school administration, the role of physical education teachers, and the administrative and financial obstacles to activating school sports activities. The questionnaire featured 23 items and was based on a four-point Likert scale. After confirming the validity and reliability of the questionnaire, it was distributed to the study participants. Findings: Through this analysis, the researchers concluded the following: The school administration's role in supporting the necessary requirements to activate school sports activities is weak. Physical education teachers are essential in promoting school sports activities. There is a shortage of sufficient financial and human resources needed to support school sports activities effectively. Many schools lack playgrounds for sports and sufficient sports equipment and tools.

The role of coaches in promoting anti-doping education among athletes is well researched in the western world. The present study examined the role of Physical Education (P.E.) teachers in anti-doping education in Ghana under doping practices, knowledge of anti-doping control and the importance of doping education in training programmes among student-athletes. Semi-structured interviews involving eleven P.E. teachers aged 31-46 who coached all the sporting disciplines in Senior High Schools-football, handball, netball, hockey, volleyball, table tennis, badminton and athletics were conducted. Based on the preliminary results, additional information was requested from 10 student-athletes on the use of doping products and the harmful effects. The interviews were transcribed, and the data were analysed thematically. The findings revealed that although coaches and athletes are aware of the effects of doping, the effort to promote anti-doping education have been met with resistance as students claimed P.E. teachers are not health professionals. To be recognised as the best, P.E. teachers were also found culpable of aiding students to use banned performance-enhancing drugs during competitions. A worrying picture of the present study is the sale of drugs to people especially the youths without prescriptions. This has not led only to loss of lives, but to an increase in doping cases, as students can easily have access to drugs that can be used in doping. The present study proposes recommendations and suggestions to the political stakeholder, based on its findings.

  • Muhammad Syaleh

The implementation of sports activities in schools, although essential for the physical and character development of students, carries various potential risks, ranging from physical injuries to organizational and financial problems. This study aims to analyze the implementation of risk management in the organization of sports activities in schools in Gajahmungkur District, Semarang City. The research method used is descriptive qualitative with a case study approach. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with physical education teachers, principals, and students, as well as participatory observation and documentation studies. The results show that awareness of the importance of risk management still varies between schools. Some schools have implemented ad hoc risk mitigation measures, such as equipment checks, warm-ups, and strict supervision, but these have not been integrated into a systematic framework. Risk identification, evaluation, and response are often based on experience or intuition rather than structured analysis. In addition, collaboration between various related parties, such as parents and medical personnel, still needs to be improved. This study concludes that more intensive socialization and training on risk management for school staff is needed. The development of specific and standardized risk management guidelines for sports activities in schools is also highly recommended to improve the safety and effectiveness of activities.

  • Qi Ying Li Mcclelland + 2 more

ABSTRACTObjective: Physical education (PE) teachers may be the first to assist students with asthma attacks during PE class. This study explores the PE teachers' perspectives on in-school asthma management and barriers to physical activity (PA) in children with asthma attending urban elementary schools. Methods: We conducted qualitative semi-structured interviews with 16 PE teachers from 10 Bronx, NY elementary schools. Interviews were recorded, transcribed, and independently coded. Content analysis was used to identify 10 major themes common across interviews which were then categorized into 3 domains. Results: Three domains were identified: 1) school procedures and policies for asthma management; 2) role of PE teachers in asthma management; and 3) barriers to PA for students. Most PE teachers were unaware of written procedures for acute asthma management and did not receive asthma-specific training. Many PE teachers expressed confidence regarding asthma management. PE teachers identified students with asthma most commonly through communication with students. The PE teachers utilized various methods to manage asthma but all relied on the nurse to handle acute asthma symptoms. Several barriers to PA were determined, including PE teachers' unawareness of NYS PE requirements, lack of gym facilities, inclement weather, inconsistent PE class time, asthma diagnosis, and having no asthma inhalers at the nurse's office. Conclusions: PE teachers' perspectives on asthma management may influence the way asthma is handled at school. The results from this study highlight several barriers that can be targeted in future interventions to improve asthma management.

Job satisfaction among physical education teachers: A systematic literature review
  • Apr 23, 2024
  • Edu Sportivo: Indonesian Journal of Physical Education
  • Novri Gazali + 3 more

Background Problems: In recent decades, physical education teacher job satisfaction has become a topic of interest in academic literature. The important role of physical education teachers' job satisfaction in the quality of teaching and its potential to influence student achievement have attracted attention. Research Objectives: This study aims to comprehensively analyse the level of job satisfaction among physical education teachers through a systematic review of the existing literature. Methods: We selected articles containing information on this topic from two databases (Scopus and Web of Science). We conducted the search according to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines. After the exclusion criteria, only 26 articles were categorized, all published between 2014 and 2023. Findings/Results: This research reveals that physical education teachers’ job satisfaction has been investigated in 13 countries, with Turkey, the United States, and Greece being the main focus. Although the majority of physical education teachers expressed high levels of satisfaction, significant differences in satisfaction levels emerged between them. For example, in Slovakia and Poland, satisfaction levels were relatively low. The findings underline that administrative support, work-life balance, and economic considerations are key factors that influence physical education teachers’ job satisfaction. However, in this context, money and rewards, working conditions, and the availability of resources also play an important role in determining teacher satisfaction. Conclusion: The findings from this study highlight the need for a deeper understanding of the diverse factors impacting job satisfaction among physical education instructors. We can develop more effective policies and practices to improve teachers’ well-being and performance at both local and global levels by understanding these nuances. We suggest further investigations into job satisfaction among physical education teachers in the Asian region, particularly focusing on Southeast Asia. Additionally, exploring variables such as leadership, self-efficacy, school climate, and culture in future research can offer deeper insights into the determinants of job satisfaction.

  • Saleh Hammad + 1 more

This study seeks to examine the function of sports administrations in facilitating the involvement of individuals with disabilities in school sports activities, emphasizing the aspects that affect the establishment of a complete and suitable environment for this demographic. Data were gathered via a questionnaire administered to 82 principals of schools for individuals with disabilities, focusing on the sports programs offered, required adaptations to accommodate the needs of individuals with disabilities, students' reactions to these activities, and variables influencing their participation, including gender, age group, and type of disability. The findings indicated that sports administrators foster a conducive atmosphere, as students with disabilities exhibited a favorable inclination to engage in sports activities, with variations in participation levels noted according to disability type and age group. Research indicates that sports policies and procedures implemented in schools enhance the involvement of individuals with disabilities; yet, certain areas require enhancement, particularly in providing further adjustments to accommodate students' requirements. The statistical study revealed a favorable and statistically significant correlation between the function of sports administrations and the enhancement of participation among individuals with disabilities in sports activities. This research elucidates the significant role of sports administrations in facilitating equitable opportunities for individuals with disabilities within the sports domain, and offers recommendations to enhance these opportunities and foster the inclusive participation of this demographic in school sports activities.

Exploring the Role of Physical Education Teachers’ Domain-Specific Innovativeness, Educational Background, and Perceived School Support in CSPAP Adoption
  • Jan 1, 2020
  • Journal of Teaching in Physical Education
  • Collin A Webster + 5 more

Purpose: A comprehensive school physical activity program (CSPAP) is designed to help school-aged youth meet physical activity guidelines as well as develop the knowledge, skills, and dispositions that foster meaningful lifelong physical activity participation. In this study, we employed a “diffusion of innovations theory” perspective to examine the adoption of CSPAPs in relation to physical education teachers’ domain-specific innovativeness, educational background, demographics, and perceived school support. Methods: Physical education teachers (N = 407) responded to an electronic survey with validated measures for each of the above-mentioned variables. Results: Latent profile analysis classified teachers into three domain-specific innovativeness levels (high, average, and low). CSPAP-related professional training, knowledge, and perceived school support were found to be significant factors in domain-specific innovativeness and CSPAP adoption. Discussion/Conclusion: This study provides novel evidence to inform professional development initiatives so that they can be tailored to physical education teachers who may be less likely to adopt a CSPAP.
