Abstract

The paper discusses the issue of intercultural communicative competence of engineering students, in particular, the aspect of the foreign language professional reading competence. The avalanche-like growth of scientific and technical information, with the English-language publications constituting the largest share, makes the foreign-language reading competence an important component of the professional competence of an engineer. The survey conducted among master’s degree students of Bauman MSTU showed that students recognize the importance of reading professional literature in a foreign (English) language. The paper proposes methods of adapting an English language course at a technical university to the purposes of future engineers’ development.
