Abstract

Stefanou et al.1 conducted the first meta-analysis to estimate the prevalence of acute arterial ischemic stroke (AIS) after COVID-19 vaccination. Their study draws the key conclusion that the prevalence of AIS after COVID-19 vaccination was comparable with the prevalence of AIS in the general population. However, Table 3 shows that the authors derived the AIS prevalence per 100,000 COVID-19 vaccinations, which was 4.7; this rate is significantly lower than the age-standardized global AIS prevalence rate (951-1,038) and incidence rate (95–98) per 100,000 individuals per year in the general population. This seems to suggest the possible association of COVID-19 vaccination with lower risk of AIS.
