Abstract

This article is adapted from a luncheon address presented to the Society for Pastoral Theology Annual Study Conference in Atlanta, GA. It explores the significance of corporate rituals and the making and recalling of memories in the life of groups like the Society. It also calls for broad critical engagement with contemporary science, particularly the neurosciences, for a fuller development of a theological anthropology that recognizes the deeply embodied nature of our work as pastoral theologians.
