Abstract
Hydrogen peroxide (H2O2), an endogenous reactive oxygen species, may cause a series of physical and chemical processes and various diseases in excess in an organism. In this article, simple solvent stirring is reported to synthesize a europium-metal organic framework (Eu-MOF) at room temperature for the detection of H2O2. Eu-MOF emits characteristic red fluorescence, but with the addition of H2O2, significant quenching occurred due to the reduced energy transfer from organic ligand to Eu caused by electrophilic and nucleophilic properties of H2O2. Under the optimized conditions, Eu-MOF showed high sensitivity and selectivity with linearity (R 2 > 0.99) from 1 to 150 μM and a limit of detection (LOD) of 0.65 μΜ and was employed for the determination of H2O2 in human serum. In addition, Eu-MOF based portable test strips were developed to monitor H2O2 content with the aid of a smartphone color analysis application, consuming only 5 μL of samples. Thus, the real-time determination of H2O2 was achieved utilizing this portable device.
