Abstract

This research investigates the types and contributions of DSS research conducted by major MIS doctoral institutions in the U.S. and Canada. The primary data for this study were gathered from a total of 692 citing articles in the DSS area over the past 20 years (1971-1990) and the database file of cited references that consists of a total of 15,030 records taken from the 692 citing articles.This research ranks 85 MIS doctoral institutions in the U.S. and Canada in terms of their contributions to decision support systems research during the period of 1971 through 1990 using a citation analysis. Among those doctoral institutions, three universities are identified as leading DSS research schools: MIT, the University of Minnesota, and the University of Texas-Austin.
