Abstract

Coherent frequency diverse array (FDA) employs a small frequency increment across the array elements, thus resulting in additional controllable degrees-of-freedom in range domain. It is capable of providing a range-angle-dependent transmit beampattern, which is different from the conventional angle-dependent beampattern of the phased array. This paper studies the receive procedure of the coherent FDA radar. We devise a novel receiver referred to as range-angle matched receiver. In the designed receiver, the pulse duration is divided into several sub-pulses which are much shorter in time duration. Then the received echo is processed by the range-angle-dependent filter modulated by the transmit beampattern. The design of the sub-pulse duration is presented while the property of the ambiguity function in multiple dimensions is studied. Simulation examples are provided to verify the effectiveness of the proposed approaches for the coherent FDA radar.
