Abstract

Abstract Surface-enhanced Raman scattering of 9-methylacridine at different pH values has been investigated. At low pH a 9-methylacridinium cation is formed and paired with a surface chloride ion. For pH values higher than the p K a value, 9-methylacridine is bound to the silver surface via nitrogen lone pair electrons. Both species are perpendicular or at least in tilted stances with respect to the silver surface.
