Abstract

Raman and resonance Raman (RR) spectra of polypyrrole on colloidal TiO 2 are presented. An analysis of the UV-visible and RR spectra, in terms of the band structure of polypyrrole, is given as evidence for the presence of bipolarons. Interpretation of Raman and RR spectra is made by analogy with the previously reported Raman data for polyparaphenylene, polyenes, pyrrole and substituted pyrroles. It has been shown that the polypyrrole chain contains both aromatic and quinonoid type structures linked via either α—α or α—β carbons.
