Abstract

Low-fluence ( F ≈ 1–6 mJ/cm 2) IR (multiphoton) excitation of C 2H 4 along the ν 7 -ν 8 vibrational ladders has been investigated with a cw CO 2 laser and has been analyzed with the spontaneous Raman effect. As in high-fluence experiments (F ⪆ 1 J/cm 2), excitation was observed at the 10P(26), 10P(14) and 10P(10) CO 2 laser lines, but only evidence of single-photon absorption has been found.
