Abstract
Ashton Eaton is the world record holder in the decathlon, having won gold for the United States at the 2012 London Olympic Games. Like many decathletes before, he is not the fastest sprinter, longest or highest jumper, strongest shot putter or discus thrower, greatest hurdler or vaulter, or best distance runner. But as a total package, competing in all 10 events over 2 days, he performs at a higher level than any athlete in history.
