Abstract

The thermal propagation of hot spots in superconducting strips was investigated. Thin Sn strips were irradiated with 5.5 MeV α-particles and the rise times of the detected voltage pulses were measured for various bias currents and temperatures. The results are discussed and compared to numerical simulations of thermal propagation of hot spots in superconductors. It is shown that superconducting strip detectors may serve as position-sensitive radiation detectors.
