Abstract

High pressure radial distribution studies using energy dispersive x-ray diffraction were performed for the first time in a diamond anvil pressure cell. The differential radial distribution functions were determined for the amorphous metal Fe-W (56 wt.% W) at room temperature and at pressures of 0, 0.3, 3.6, 7.3, and 10.5 GPa. An approximately linear compression of the Fe-W sample was observed, and the isothermal bulk modulus was estimated to be 170 GPa.
