Abstract

The authors present four cases of cystic cerebral cysticercosis in different locations: optochyasmatic, supratentorial, intraventricular and intraparenchymal (two cases). In one patient the cyst wa§ associated with an A.-V. fistula offronto-basallocation.Cystic cerebral cysticercosis is rare especially when the cyst's size is over 2cm in diameter and multiple giant cysts appear in the lateral ventricles or the basal cisterns. It is important to establish an early diagnosis in order to avoid treatment failure and dissemination of the cyst's contento The recent literature related to cerebral cysticercosis is reviewed and a personal method for surgical evacuation aimed to avoid cyst rupture and secondary dissemination is described.
