Summary

Introduction

Social Cash Transfers (SCTs) are a relatively new social protection instrument in East and Southern Africa. A multi-sectoral approach is needed to address the plight of orphaned children living with disability as well as their caregivers in order to achieve inclusive sustainable development. This social construction of disability by adults and children themselves is further influenced by the changing socio-economic environment which includes the current international debate on the rights of the child.
