Abstract

Three typical examples of turbomachinery flows are presented to demonstrate the use of a quasi-three-dimensional (Q-3D) flow simulation method. In the first example-flow in the turbine of a turbocharger - the role of the Q-3D method within the flow simulation tools is of main interest. Furthermore the coupling to the structural dynamic calculations is also described. This topic is mentioned in more detail for the second example: the flow in a single stage test turbine. It is a high pressure turbine stage, which is investigated within the Brite/EuRam project ADTurB. The last example is the flow through a 1½ stage compressor cascade, for which also detailed measurements are available.
