Abstract

A reversed-phase high performance liquid chromatography method for the separation, identification and simultaneous quantification of sesquiterpenes and polyacetylenes in the essential oil of Chamomilla recutita using a gradient elution programme with UV detection is reported. The structure of (E)-β-farnesene isolated from camomile essential oil was confirmed by nuclear magnetic resonance spectrometry. Copyright © 1999 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
