Abstract

Prior methods of assessing the quality of laser machined features are reviewed. The common features that contribute to a quality analysis for laser-drilled holes are described and the best methods to measure them are presented. A new quality index based on the Taguchi loss function is introduced. The use of the new quality index in laser micromachining applications is demonstrated.
