Abstract

An experiment for Raman spectroscopy in combination with multivariate data analysis was designed and implemented in the undergraduate analytical chemistry laboratory curriculum. Raman spectroscopy is currently considered among the most important nondestructive routine optical analysis tools. An experiment is presented demonstrating the capability of Raman spectroscopy in combination with principal components analysis and regression (PCA/PCR), which was applied to determine the composition of complex sugar mixtures that cannot be adequately quantified using conventional univariate analysis methods.
