Abstract

Quality of life is considered to be a function of biophysical, environmental and social conditions. No system of quality of life indicators has been developed as yet, however some progress has been made lately to this end. Methods appropriate for designing quality ot life indexes are suggested in this paper. Such indexes could be used to evaluate different quality of life aspects and make comparisons over space and time. An indicative list of quality of life indicators, grouped in the following categories, is given: air quality, water quality, soil quality, natural, conditions and hazards, shelter quality, urbanization, communications, nutrition, health, education, economic conditions, security, social, leisure/recreation.
