Abstract

We present new experimental results on the initiation and the combustion velocity of mechanically activated compositions based on micron aluminum and copper oxide powders mixtures at a relative density of 40–60%. The initiation of combustion were produced by electric-spark method with a power input of 1.5–6.0 mJ during the 1.2 µs. Diagnosis was performed by means of the photographic registration process in cylindrical glass tubes with a diameter of 3.5–8.5 mm. Depending on the initiation energy, dose of activation and the tube diameter combustion rate is estimated in the range 30–90 m/s, and the induction period 20–2200 µs. Spread of combustion is characterized as a consecutive chain of microexplosions in contact points of reagents.
