Abstract
The advance of coordinate measurement technique is caused by the fact that by the introduction of CAD/CAM and CAQ systems connected to the technological process planning the need arises for quick, precise and automated inspection methods of free form surfaces. In consequence of the advance of flexible manufacturing systems and CAD/CAM systems as well as the propagation of 3D measuring machines, there is increasing demand for automated geometrical inspection of helicoid surfaces. The geometrical inspections and qualifications of the mostly used cylindrical and conical helicoid surfaces — having constant pitch — on 3D coordinate measuring machines are an indispensable condition of the automated production of possible versions (various types, geometrical parameters) of helicoid surfaces.
