Abstract
The generator coordinate method is used to investigate the 8Li nucleus in a multiconfiguration (α+t)+n and (α+n)+t three-cluster model. Without any parameter fit, it succeeds in reproducing several spectroscopic properties of 8Li, but contradicts the huge experimental value for the E2 transition probability between the ground and first excited states.
