Abstract

Photovoltaic units have been adopted recently as embedded generators in distribution feeders; the accommodation of this green source of energy in medium voltage feeders is a challenging task due to complexity and extensive dimensionality of finding optimal site and size problems. The optimal selected site should reflect the best impacts over both network and consumer side. Genetic Algorithm is employed successfully in this work to find the optimal site and size of PV units in a practical 11kV feeder within Baghdad distribution network. Accommodating photovoltaic units in the optimal sites improve both service availability, quality and reduce network loss.
