Abstract

A novel silicon(IV) phthalocyanine axially substituted with iodine containing BODIPY groups was synthesized. Surprisingly, this novel phthalocyanine is colored as purple in solution due to the mixture of pink and blue colours of BODIPY and phthalocyanine units, respectively. Additionally, the photophysical and photochemical properties of this silicon(IV) phthalocyanine were investigated for the determination of its photodynamic therapy (PDT) ability. This phthalocyanine generated approximately 12 times higher singlet oxygen compared to axially non-iodinated BODIPY substituted silicon(IV) phthalocyanine counterpart.
