Abstract
1. 1. β-(1-3)-glucanase (E.C. 3.2.1.6.) has been isolated from the marine bivalve Chlamys abbidus and purified by gel chromatography on a biogel P-30 followed by ion-exchange chromatography on SE-Sephadex C-50. The enzyme was homogeneous according to the data of analytical disc electrophoresis. 2. 2. Maximum activity was exhibited at pH 4.4 and a temperature of 35°C. The enzyme was stable within a pH range of 3.5 to 7.5 and heatstable to 45°C. pI was 7.5, mol. wt 20,000. 3. 3. The purified glucanase belonged to the endo-type enzyme action.
