Abstract

In this paper, we propose punctured super-orthogonal space-time trellis codes. We present the basic design criteria and the constraints under which the designed punctured codes can be decoded without performance loss. Compared with the conventional super-orthogonal space-time trellis codes, such punctured codes can provide simpler decoding and allow an easy implementation of various spectral efficiencies with a single encoder/decoder. Our simulation results demonstrate that the performance of the proposed punctured super-orthogonal space-time trellis codes for two transmit antennas is close to that of the corresponding conventional codes in the literature. The general idea is extended to more than two antennas
