Abstract

The pulsating diffraction of coherent light (6328 AA) by a smectic C domain is investigated. Two pulsating periods tau 1 (a few seconds) and tau 2 ( approximately=65 s) are found. tau 1 depends on the electric field but tau 2 does not. The pulsation intensity is explained by a periodical alternation of the amplitudes of the angular distortions of the director.
