Abstract

AbstractA case of polymyositis with clinical, roentgenologic, physiologic, and morphologic evidence of lung involvement has been presented. The initial description of the electron microscopic alterations of the pulmonary lesions has been included. Symptomatic improvement and resolution of the roentgenographic abnormalities followed corticosteroid therapy. The similarity of the pulmonary lesions occurring in polymyositis and progressive systemic sclerosis has been stressed; the response of the former to corticosteroid therapy may be a possible differentiating feature.
